Living the simple life in the city

Growing up, I always fancied I’d marry a farmer and live a simple life on the land.
I had absolutely no grounds on which to base this fancy except to say that I quite like brown fields and dislike traffic immensely and knew there would be none of that malarkey out the back of nowhere. Let’s face it – having a fancy is a strange thing indeed.
To get my dream well and truly underway, I promptly fell in love and married an investment banker. I tried to persuade him that our destiny might lie buried in a back paddock somewhere, but he was having none of it. “What would I do out there,” he asked, waving his hand vaguely west.
“Lots of stuff,” I replied reassuringly. “Open a branch of Citibank, for starters.”

(Hello lovelies, I'm still testing how to link my writing 'out there' with my blog. Please let me know if in the comments what you think of this 'teaser' approach. Please don't be shy.)

Beautifully written. Except, I hate to tell you this, but you have a bit of straw in your hair.

like it-good teaser-fab way to get your life in the country jumpt started...! I have similar (ish) day dreams, of fields and dogs and wellies and walks in scotland...think may help if i lived there...

Oh I laughed so much! Hilarious story!
I actually live on the boarder or suburbia/rural life. While I sit on the suburbian side, I have always dreamed of planting my roots on the rural side. I too thought I would marry a farmer. It bugs me to no end that Mr Black won't come around to my dream. At least we have a chook and a veggie patch I guess? Oh and he lets me go to the local bogan country fair every year.

I'm married to a farmer and (obviously) live on a farm... I love my farmer, but though we have very little traffic, there are some downsides to country life too!

Haha what a coincidence! I just wrote a post about wanting to live in the country too! Maybe you could convince your husband to "invest" in some country living??

I love your writing and take on life which is why I remain a subscriber but gotta be honest and say I'm getting tired of the teaser links - maybe you need to shut down Maxabella loves and we should subscribe where you're writing elsewhere

I'm the same, I'm not sure how to connect my two writing worlds - this approach works ok, you could do a complete cut and paste of your story to your blog but then you won't get the traffic through the site where your writing lives..hmmm. At least your open and honest about the dilemma...you'll get there, we're still here and I'm clicking through - see ya!

Honestly, it's only a mouse click! How hard is that, guys? I don't often comment here, but I'm an avid reader! Love the country life in the city too!

This place was once a jumping, warm, sweet blog, very much like an online cafe; it was ambient, and fun, and fabulously regular (something fresh every single day), and very, very you. It's not the same as it was before.
Perhaps it's time for a reno? Gill and I have plans for our online digs, but they're still under construction. It's so very hard figuring out where it all fits here online; creative, professional, personal, writing, image making etc.
Personally, I think you could get away with a pic-heavy blog, because you have an eye, my dear. People are attracted to your warmth, your humour, your smarts but overall, I think we love your taste which somehow glues all these fabulous bits together.

I now immediately regret that comment.
Should I mention that this place also encourages me to relax so much that I insert my own foot into my mouth?
I hope my comment doesn't cause any offence, only I know you like honesty and we're in the same boat with our blog too. *ducks and hides*

Loved the post, I married a investment banker as well instead of a pilot.

The grass is always greener on the other side Bron! I always dreamed of marrying a doctor or a banker and ended up married to a farmer! Wouldn't change a thing though. Love that you have chooks and veggies, they are the fun bits!

Gotta say that when there's half a blog post and then a link to click somewhere else to finish reading...one of my pet hates.
