Just thought I'd let you all know that I've started writing a new series for Village Voices on the importance of making the most of family rituals. I am loving writing these posts and hope you love them too.
The posts are for a campaign for Australian Eggs, so you can bet an update on our chickens is coming up in one of these posts. I have been amazed at the number of emails I've received asking me about them. Especially after I put an update on Facebook a little while ago when Sparkle went missing (forever, as it turned out).
Incidentally, I'm well aware of the hypercritical nature of my doing 'sponsored' posts on Village Voices, when I've had words to say about doing them on my own blog. I am doing the Eggs posts and I've been doing the Lunchbox Loving series for Tip Top for a while now too.
I promise I will write a post about my hypocriticalness and all that next week. Just gotta get my head around that myself!
The other thing I wanted to ask you all was: what do you think of bloggers writing elsewhere and then writing a post about writing elsewhere? (Such as I have done here.) Are you grateful for the link so you get to read the post? Or do you think 'show off, I hate your guts now'?
Or, of course, you might think something in between?!
Please tell me.

Hi Maxabella,
I'm happy to hear where else you've been writing. I subscribe to your blog because I like what you have to say... your post on the Chinese massage is my all-time fav blog post anywhere ever!! It doesn't matter to me whether it's on this blog or somewhere else, I'll usually pop over and check it out :)
I love to hear about the other places my fave bloggers have been. It doesn't make me loose any interest in their blog, if anything, I gain more respect for them that they are sharing their passions and talents around the web :)
And I don't mind the odd sponsored post either. If we can earn a little money here and there with this blogging gig, then hey! Good on us!
Finding balance is the key I guess :)
Ok, I'm off now....to do my sponsored post and then share a link to a site I also wrote on this week :) {and I'm being serious}
xx
I think it's wonderful that you have separated the two and I also think it's fine to have an overtly commercial blog and think it's extra wonderful that you've kept this one free of commercialisation! I have noticed that once somebody accepts sponsors that the tone of the blog changes to a more commercial, business voice and that is personal choice. I don't think people should pretend it isn't commercial if it is though.
I have a terrible reaction to sponsored posts. Ads I don't mind. I like to see where the writers I like are publishing, and I am alwasy happy that they are getting work. But sponsored posts feel like advertorials, trading off and diminishing the structural integrity of the blog. I feel bad expressing this because so many bloggers I respect and admire do sponsored posts, and I get that they are one of the best income streams bloggers have at this point. But, in truth, I can't bear them.
Hate mail on postcards please.
I love going down an interesting road that I have never been down before.Basicaly I am saying I ahave no problem on guest bloggers.
and if you can get sponsored but still reflects how you feel all power to you.
Bron Bron Bron, i think you are a raving success! You gave up your corporate grey world and are doing what you love. i couldn't give two hoots if you tell me here that your writing over there...in fact it's great. It's like us crafty folk that show off what we've made and then go flog it at a market or online.. same same but different. As for a weekly post about family rituals...bring it on...i love reading about family traditions. xx
Keep on showing off (as you put it). Isn't that what blogging is all about? Sharing? Dance to your own beat, I say. I loved your rituals piece by the way. One of your best.
I'm grateful for the reminder.
I often read your posts elsewhere but can't be bothered with signing in to comment (LAZY OR WHAT???)
I'll definitely try to keep up with the rituals posts, because it's a subject that fascinates me. We had very few in my family-of-origin, and I've tried really damn hard to create a bunch for my own kids.
Bron, you raise some interesting poijnts, especially as a blogger myself and regularly writing elsewhere. And thank you to Rachel for your thoughts on sponsored posts. I often think it is a fine line between accepting and writing because obviously maintaining the integrity of ones blog is important.
I think, and hope, our readers would nothing to know where we are and what we are writing. Because otherwise, how would they know?
And your family ritual idealists sounds fabulous! So in line with my beliefs and one of the messages of the parenting files - family time.
Xoxoxo
It really doesn't bother me. The only thing that is annoying is that all the sponsored posts seem to be 'mummy' related or 'kiddie' related, so for peeps like me, I can't really relate.
PS - I also do paid writing elsewhere, so if you can earn some moolah I say go for it!
No problem with ads or links but fair or not, I HATE the sponsored post. I've been loyal to a couple of prominent bloggers for a few years and since sponsored posts crept in my loyalty is seeping away...I saw the same shower cleaning product featured on several blogs last week and clicked unsubscribe (so your post is timely as your posts so often are) I don't like the advetorials that pose as a normal post, feels sort of sneaky.
I'm pretty much new to all of this (4 months in) and I don't mind if there's a link to what people have been writing elsewhere... If I love what you write then I'll follow you wherever you go :)
As for sponsored posts... Look, I'm not opposed to them. I know how strongly some feel against them but as Claire mentioned above if it's a way to make a few extra dollars to help at home then why the hell not?! Yes I think the trick is to put your own spin on the ad and not entirely sound like a voice over from a Bam commercial! I'm debating whether or not I'll ever go down that path. Truth be told I'd like to make a living where I could stay at home with my little girl and work and not have to organise for strangers to care for her. So I'm not going to pass judgement on those who do! I'll simply choose to read them or not but I still love their regular personal content that make their blog!
Yes I love writing essays! :)

I definitely don't think 'show off' at all. If it's a topic that sounds interesting to me, I'll often pop over and have a read :)
good on you for being clever enough to earn some money, love an egg, so long as it's free range.
I often read your posts else where and happy to be reminded to do so here on you blog
I love your writing style so I cant help but follow you around wherever you go! Except that to be honest family and kid topics dont draw me in so much as I dont have them! But I will still pop on over if the topic is relevant. Its your blog you can do whatever the bleep you like anyways :)
I think it's fine to write in more than one place and cross promote. If I'm interested in what you have to say in one place I may be interested in what you have to say somewhere else and in either case I get to choose what I read and where I read it. I have stumbled across several blogs that I read on a regular basis by following a link either from the original author writing in a different place or from another blog author providing a link. That's how I found you in the first place.
Just keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about the hypercritics. They need a life!
Absolutely share the links!! I think it's exciting and you should be proud to share. I will follow that link!!
Happy Friday!
Selena
Share the links Bron! Why shouldn't you be proud of what else you are doing and share it?
I think it's great you have a regular gig where you can write :)
Keep it up lovely! xxx
I love that you are writing elsewhere and sharing that you do. You should be proud you are a wonderful writer and definitely an inspiration. I would love to be doing the same one day.
As for sponsored advertorial posts I'm neither here nor there. If it is something that interest me I will read, but more than likely I'll just pop back tomorrow. I certainly wouldn't stop reading a blog should they decide to do sponsored posts (unless it was too often!)
I've no problem with a little gentle self-promotion if you're writing elsewhere. If people like what you write, they'd like to know where to find said writings.
As to the sponsored post thing, I admit I tend to switch off those posts unless they are so riveting I don't realise what they are till the end. Occasionally I'll still read one from the start if it's something of interest.
I think being able to do that type of writing elsewhere is a perfect opportunity, especially as you've decided not to "muddy your voice" on this blog with sponsored posts. I don't see it as hypocritical at all. Maybe it's about finding the right platform or forum. Some blogs start out with a voice selling ideas, tips, products and to write sponsored posts in that context fits. I've thought about monetising my blog fleetingly but I just cannot see it suiting my voice (and I've got so little time to blog lately anyway).
oh a bit of both, lol. No seriously, it's good to know, maybe a litle envy!
I'm crossing this bridge now too, but my gut says keep my blog for passion and write elsewhere for the income. That way my voice remains untainted by the commercial (sometimes) nature of the paid gigs.
I don't like sponsored posts a great deal but I think you're doing a good job over here. Goodness knows we feel we can be honest enough here that if you do cross the line (wherever that may be) we'll let you know. X
Bron, please keep letting us know where else you're writing. I imagine that like me, most of your readers follow you because of your writing, no matter where it is.
My problem lately has been juggling my time enough to read everything I want to read, gotta get more organized! xx
