Pin of the Day: Ghostpatrol

Ghostpatrol creates the most whimsical, marvellous street art. I first saw his stuff in the flesh in Melbourne years ago, but I didn't know it at the time. He's now an established artist (he's like an Aussie version of Banksy... but personally I think he's even better).

I'm not a fan of graffiti, but I love street art far too much to ever be totally against it. Those inane taggers need to have their hands tied together, no doubt about it, but a colourful mural or a quirky little artwork left in the dead of night in an otherwise abandoned and grey part of the urban landscape... that's alright by me. I guess I will take the tags if losing them meant losing the good stuff.

Visit the Design Files to read their interview with Ghostpatrol or click on the image to pin the pin!

What are your thoughts on graffiti?

When I was a high school student I used a permanent marker to write poems on the toilet walls... it's art baby!

Street art - love it, graffiti seems fairly talentless and generally rude and not thoughtfully placed - definitely a difference. Have you seen the movie 'Exit Through the Gift Shop'?

A bit like you, I like the murals and the street art, but I'm not a fan of tags and 'scribble'!

The grubby, rubbishy tags make me a bit sad. But fabulous street art out of the blue really makes my day!

snap to you. tagging is so dumb. I dont understand why people want to make their own neighbourhood more ugly. Its like crapping in your own front yard. But actual art is awesome and should be celebrated! this stuff is great :)
