Pin of the Day: Pulley storage

I'm a big fan of decorating right up to the ceiling. My sister laughs at the amount of stuff up there in the kids' rooms. Bunting, garlands, mobiles... a room doesn't look finished to me unless every flat surface has been considered. I tend to 'go large' on the ceiling and leave below fairly plain. I'm weird like that.

I'm absolutely doing this pulley storage system for Maxi in his (any day now) new room. How cool is this!

Of course, the reality is that the ropes will get stuck and tangled and it will all be a big mess with stuff randomly falling on people's heads, but we can give it a go, right?

I pinned this one from the very-cool Handmade Charlotte and I believe it's from her blog, but the pin goes nowhere.

Do you decorate up?

Hell yeah, i decorate to the ceiling, check out my Friday 13th party post, all ceiling!! In the children's rooms, all their string lanterns meet at a huge central lantern, they have tissue paper balls, fans, hearts then rows of bunting, all so pretty when you lay on their bed & look up. I do that while they ask advice from their desks, it's so lovely & i wished my bedroom looked like that as a child. We live in Army housing so we can't paint a wall but there is nothing a 3M removable hook can't suspend in the air for me!! Love Posie

That pulley system is fantastic. I love a bit of up to the ceiling decor too. We made a pretty mobile above the baby's cot and she often waves at it when I put her into bed after a long day. Too cute. Agree with Posie, think it's lovely for them to look up at something interesting. Have a lovely weekend!

Well, that is creative for you althought I'm not sure the saftey child checklist would approve. i could just see my son trying to put my daughter in one of the baskets and hoisting her up!!!! but it does look awesome!!!

Oh, I love this. Can't wait to show my engineer-husband and challenge him to make it!! He's always looking for innovative storage (but it usually involves wall cavities), this has to appeal to him!!

I love your pulley system idea! It is a very pretty and useful storage idea for the kids to store their little things that often go misplaced if not stored away neatly and properly. I think my kids will be thrilled about this idea too because not only do they decorate the empty ceiling but the kids can use them as toys too and play pretent as a shop owner and stuff. Thanks for sharing!
