You know what I don't get? I don't get why my house doesn't look like I think I want it to look. I collect lovely images of gorgeous home ideas and techically I could just get in there and copy them at my place. But I don't. I do other stuff that I don't like as much for reasons unknown.
I guess I just don't want to copy someone else's stuff. I want to create something that's my stuff but that's a worry because I'm clearly not skilled enough to translate what's in my head into what's in my house.
This sweet dining area (viaAmanda Padilla pinned from Le Squelette de Tricot, one of dem pesky tumblr blogs) is perfect in every way to me. Mine doesn't look one bit like it.
Can you decorate the way you want to decorate?

This is driving me nuts right now! i have this gorgoeus style in my head, but in reality, I don't know where to put stuff. So I have ended up with a throw-it-wear-it-fits look to my place. In other words, crap everywhere. I need to spend more time on pinterest, perhaps! :)sarah
My house doesn't look at all like that either. My house is totally unthought out and I feel totally at home in it. It has some really precious object, plus the precious family of course! One of whom is asleep on the sofa and I must hang out the washed towels etc that were vomited upon.
On the days I tidy my house up, it really is ideal for me... lots of glass and big tables and benches all clear of clutter. Tuesdays ae my tidy days and Weds are my fave days of the week!
In some ways yes, but in other ways a big humungous 'no!' partly due to a certain little two year old who manages to undo/drawn on/pull apart/smear food over anything nice and partly because I have to save up for some things like some fabulous built in cupboards for my craft nook. One day I will decorate how I'd love to decorate, but for now, I will be happy with the little snippets of decorating that make me happy, and calms that 'house makeover' itch.
At least you live in your own home, we renters (worse, we in Army housing) can't paint a wall or hang a whole lot of art, it's kind of torture for a designer like me, creative to the core - our house basically looks like a serviced apartment, so generic & bland. SO want my own home, it's coming & will look exactly as i imagine in my head - colourful!!
Just remembering, there is copying & inspiration, big difference, you'll work your own magic into the themes & trends you want to try on your house. Love Posie
no I can't, but it's largely because we're budgeting with our one income right now and all the stuff I like is expensive. I wish I was one of those thrify decorators that could put a room together inexpensively, but apparently that is just wishful thinking on my part.
My house looks nothing like what I wished it looked like. I would like SPACE. And no clutter. Or at least a lot less clutter. But no, I live with a family of hoarders and there is shit everywhere. I hate it. I am constantly trying to make inroads into the clutter it seems to breed as quick as I get rid of stuff.
Bits of it do and I'm working on the rest. I'm limited by my finances so I'm trying to be creative, it's surprising what you can do with a bit of imagination and a little hard work.
Im finishing my daughters bedroom today so there may be a post with a few of my ideas on the way soon.
I'm always looking at the things other people have done - think of it as inspiration rather than copying, you can always put your own spin on it and make it your own.
I always find it so hard to look on Pinterest...and on blogs too for that matter...I see things that I love and I want to put them in my own home but in reality they aren't really my taste...and while I wish that I had that taste and that style, I don't! C'est la vie I suppose! I will continue to look and admire what other people have done!
I did decorate the way I wanted when we moved here 5 years ago, but now I want different. I'm saving these ideas for when we build again, hopefully in the not too distant future.
We renovated 3years ago, it was a great design we thought at the time and great layout for our family to grow into. Some things work some things don't. Also not how I would love it all to be-hard with limited funds and four kids. My visusal idea is not how it looks:)
You really make me laugh. It's kills me, too. All the blogs I read seem to have these amazing houses, and our house is, well, lived in. The junk everywhere (shoes, oh so many shoes!) drives me nuts. Also when I go to get something for our house to make it into a style I want, I somehow can't manage to part with the thousands of dollars it all costs. It got to me so much my husband agreed we'd both solve one area that bugs us. For me, it's the entry. For him, it's the garden.
