I loathe cleaning, but I love clean. As a consequence, I find myself doing something I loathe rather too often.
The delicious Winter weather inspired me to do a mini-Spring clean today. I cleaned the out the fridge, damp-wiped the skirting boards and scrubbed every available surface. I mopped for the first time in weeks. It's virtually impossible to mop when you've got a bad back.
"I mopped today, the water was black," I said to LOML during one of our scintillating daily phone conversations.
"Sweetness, you shouldn't be doing that," he gently chided.
"I know," I agreed. "I really shouldn't. But tell me, Blossom, how many times have you mopped since I hurt my back six weeks ago?"
"Er... um..."
Precisely.
So, this week I'm grateful for...
266. The cleaner - that would be me. I'm grateful that I'm back and that I care.
267. Lamps - bit random, I know. But I have developed a strange aversion to harsh overhead lighting in my old age and my lamps spread such a lovely glow.
268. Slippers - it took me 40 years to find a pair of slippers that were just right for me (I'm certain I was looking for a decent pair of slippers at birth). My feet get hot in really big uggy sort of slippers and a lot of non-ugg slippers are daggy old granny slippers. But I now have the cutest pair of woolen knitted slippers with non-slip tread and they are perfect. Not too hot, not too slippery, juuuuuuust right.
Come link up your grateful post with me over at Village Voices where this week I'm grateful for the great outdoors and urging you all to Go Outside with a little picture I designed all colourful-like just for us.
Do you like your slippers?
Do you like overhead lighting?
Do you like the way men clean a house?
[Image found via weheartit... what do you think she is cleaning up there? Is it a LUNG? Yuuuuck, it looks gross, but I couldn't resist the monumental cleaning task she faces. I feel like that every single day.]

(glad the back is better even if it does mean mopping)
I love the difference between the way that I clean and the way that hubby cleans. Bless him for trying, he does sweep the floor and make the bed, but that's the extent of it. So, any dust that's not on the floor? Ain't going to make the cut. And unless I strip the sheets? Well, he'd make those same festy ones for a year! Am yet to embrace slippers after 35 years on the planet, but did get myself a lovely red dressing gown this year. Makes me feel all grown up, especially when I clean in it! :)
I'm right there with you on all three accounts!!
:-) x
When I'm mopping the floor or something similar at a late night hour, my hubby often walks past and says 'aww honey you shouldn't be doing that' and then keeps on walking. Gotta love them. I know exactly what you mean about slippers too. Perfect ones are a worth there weight in gold. x
*their. Couldn't let that one go, it's way too annoying.
My husband mops the floor! Goodness I loathe mopping so I hit the jackpot on that one! And for that I am so grateful! x
Loving lamps too, especially the vintage kind, had this very discussion with a friend today. I am happy with any man cleaning that goes on in our house, unfortunately it is pretty thin on the ground. I'm an ankle uggie person myself.
Yes to slippers, no to overhead lighting {I only just learnt to appreciate lamps about four years ago} and NO to the way men clean! It's just not the same!
I think she's cleaning a cake. Sugar sprinkled on top. I thought YUM, funny how different minds see completely different things ;) I wish I could find great slippers. I've moved onto crochet sock things, which are lovely. I'm cleaning exhausted after moving, cleaning a rental is hard work, cleaning two? Ugh. Happy day to you!
I love my cleaner, love her to bits. She went on holidays int he holidays and didn't even whinge at the state of the house when she cleaned this week. Tuesdays I tidy and she and her husband clean and Weds are the best day of the week chez nous. Very grateful to her!!
Slippers! I got a pair second hand at a market in Huski for $5.. love them!!
These are the important things in life Bron, grateful to you for reminders!
I lurrve my slippers. I love lamps, although an overhead spotlight right above my reading chair is a winner, too. And men? Clean? Doesn't compute.
I love love love slippers. I have about 10 pairs - one for every mood!
We have a dark old house that has just been renovated so I'm enjoying my bright overhead lighting.
I would love a man who just tried to clean. He used to, I'm sure ......
It's lovely to be grateful x
Hello :)
I am just catching up on your writings now :)
Amazing how part-time work allows freedoms like oh, I don't know, reading blogs!
But also, part-time work no longer affords my beloved Bosnian cleaner, so this post I not only related to, but smiled.
Especially when husbands respond with 'er, ... ummm'.
You just want to say ... yes. Exactly darling. Now shutup, or get cleaning ;)
Looking forward to reading you again x
well you must have a good pair of slippers...
nothing worse then the ones that smell and leave an odour!
ohh and i love it when i have a nice clean fridge... don't like finding those mouldy items at the back of the cupboard or that jar which seems to only have a slither left of something not even worth spreading!!
You are a fellow kindred cleanliness spirit. Loathe cleaning, love having cleaned... (PS also adore slippers, and can most normally be found doing said cleaning while they are donned!)
:0 Glad you've found some good slippers...
AND glad your back is feeling a bit better...hope you don't regret it tomorrow
Didn't loathe cleaning as much as I've recently come to. In fact, I'm more of a tidy/neat freak so cleaning isn't even as high a priority - well, except clothes and dishes. Hard to find the grateful in all that right now for me.
My blossom is the mopping man because I love to sweep and he loves to mop. Perfect slipers are important and also please tell me you call each other blossom and sweetness for reals! :) *s*
